Powerwall 3 has a solar inverter built in, meaning fewer components, faster installation and higher efficiency. How a Powerwall Installation Works
Quote request. Send photos of your electrical panel, main breaker, meter and installation spot through the Powerwall quote form.
Design. We design the system and plan where Powerwall and its equipment will go.
Permits. We handle permitting with your local electrical authority.
Installation. A typical installation takes 3 to 4 days, depending on site conditions.
Tesla app. You monitor Powerwall and choose how it uses its stored energy in the Tesla app.

Storage. 13.5 kWh of stored energy per Powerwall 3.
Power. Up to 11.5 kW of continuous power per unit.
Heavy loads. Starts motors rated up to 185 LRA, such as heat pumps and air conditioners.
Solar. A built-in inverter with 6 solar inputs for up to 20 kW of panels, and 97.5% solar-to-home efficiency.

Do I Need Solar Panels to Install a Powerwall?
No. Powerwall 3 works as a standalone battery that charges from the grid. It’s an excellent generator alternative with or without solar panels.
Is Powerwall a Good Alternative to a Generator?
Yes. Powerwall 3 needs no fuel and has no engine, so there’s nothing to store or start, and it powers your home automatically when the grid goes down. It’s quiet too: Tesla rates its typical operating noise at under 50 dB(A) at 1 metre. It works with or without solar panels.
What Happens During a Power Outage?
Powerwall detects the outage and powers your home from its battery automatically. Each Powerwall 3 delivers up to 11.5 kW of continuous power and can start motors rated up to 185 LRA, such as heat pumps and air conditioners.
How Long Will Powerwall Run My Home During an Outage?
It depends on how much energy your home uses during the outage and how many Powerwall units you have. Each Powerwall 3 stores 13.5 kWh, and with solar panels it can recharge from the sun during a long outage.
How Many Powerwalls Do I Need?
It depends on what you want to keep running and for how long. Up to 4 Powerwall 3 units can be installed in one home, and we design the system for your home before installation.
How Long Does a Powerwall Installation Take?
A typical residential Powerwall installation takes 3 to 4 days, depending on site conditions.
