EG4 Battery and Inverter Installation in Vancouver and the Gulf Islands

Bourne Electric designs and installs EG4 battery and inverter systems across Greater Vancouver, the North Shore and the Southern Gulf Islands: off-grid power for cabins and island homes, battery backup for homes on BC Hydro, solar panels and backup generators.

We’re a licensed electrical contractor (Technical Safety BC Licence LEL0101560), and our electricians are all Red Seal.

Off-Grid Power for Cabins and Island Homes

Where there’s no grid, or the grid isn’t worth relying on, an EG4 system runs the home on its own: solar panels charge the batteries, and a generator can top them up through a long stretch of cloudy weather.

We size the batteries, inverter and solar array to what the home actually uses, and on the Gulf Islands we plan the work around the ferries.

Battery Backup for Homes on the Grid

On BC Hydro, an EG4 hybrid inverter switches your home to battery power when the grid goes down, then recharges the batteries from the grid or from solar panels. We install the EG4 18kPV and FlexBOSS21 hybrid inverters, and the EG4 6000XP for off-grid systems.

Generators and EG4

An EG4 system can work alongside a backup generator, using it to recharge the batteries when solar and the grid can’t keep up. The batteries carry the home, so the generator only runs when it’s needed.

EG4 or Tesla Powerwall?

Tesla Powerwall 3 is an all-in-one battery with a built-in solar inverter, and it suits most homes on the grid. EG4 suits off-grid homes, larger battery banks and systems with a generator. We install both, along with Enphase and Sol-Ark systems, so we’ll recommend the one that fits.

How an EG4 Project Runs

  1. Walkthrough. We look at what the home uses, where the equipment can go, and whether you’re on the grid, off it or somewhere in between.

  2. Design. You get a system design with the batteries, inverter, solar panels and generator sized to your load.

  3. Permits. We handle the electrical permit with your local authority.

  4. Installation. Licensed electricians install, wire and commission the system.

  5. Monitoring. We set up EG4 monitoring so you can see production, storage and use from your phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do You Install EG4 Off-Grid Systems?

Yes. We design and install EG4 off-grid systems for cabins and island homes, with batteries, solar panels and a backup generator.

Which EG4 Inverters Do You Install?

The EG4 18kPV and FlexBOSS21 hybrid inverters, and the EG4 6000XP for off-grid systems.

Can EG4 Work With My Generator?

Yes. EG4 inverters can use a backup generator to recharge the batteries when solar and the grid aren’t available.

Can I Add More Batteries Later?

Yes. EG4 batteries are modular, so you can start with what you need now and add capacity later.

Should I Choose EG4 or Tesla Powerwall?

Powerwall 3 suits most homes on the grid. EG4 suits off-grid homes, larger battery banks and systems with a generator. We install both and will recommend the right one.

Where Do You Install EG4?

Across Greater Vancouver — including North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore, Richmond, Burnaby and White Rock — and the Southern Gulf Islands: Salt Spring, Galiano, Mayne, Pender and Saturna.
